This need to stop now. Online only story driven game is wrong if it spin off I don't give shit but it a prequel to singleplayer game so it should be singleplayer, but these westren ignorant didn't choose just to enforce online only but to release useless and very consumer humlating physical copy. Gamers need to step up and kill these practices or the industry will be as lazy and disgusting as never. Sad thing is this had the great concept of being a single player spin off like New Vegas with its own spin Well, it is an online game like COD black ops 4, so I suppose no big deal.
That Spyro mess though is BS. True, and patches are a given for these kinds of games. And one would need a connection either way. They know that if this game was sold as a digital only game that it wouldn't get near the sales as if they falsely sold it with a physical option so they pulled this shit.
Falsely sell a physical edition, while in reality it is still a digital exclusive game. I think these kinds of physical copies which amount to nothing more than an installer need to be banned by the console makers. Either that, or a big ads disclaimer somewhere on the box which says what it is. Won't happen without some sort of intervention, but as a collector, I wouldn't want to inadvertently support this practice with day one purchases.

Things like online passes died because they realized it didn't work, make sure this doesn't work too. They are all hot messes right now. Games will become so big that they wont fit on one disc. And the patches will just continue to increase. By buying physical games your basically buying a plastic cover,disc and game cover paper. Kinda pointless when you think about it There are already discs that have GB capacity, produced by none other than Sony. Blu ray can support more than what we are currently getting, and the larger download sizes are probably going to.

I will always buy physical unless reasons, but that kind of sucks. At least it doesn't try to install the whole game first and then download. It doesn't exactly bother me, but my question is, why make everyone have to redownload the whole game? Why not only include the assets needed in the patch? So what if you do not have an internet connection? It is sad when the casual market is making the decision on something they they do "casually" can't stand those folks. They are the reason why these companies make such silly decisions.
We should do our very best not to remove choice, we do not want Netflix style of gaming because I do not want to pay a monthly fee to play games. I want to pop my game in and play whenever I want.
I doubt you'd be buying a mp game if youndont have a internet connection. However, for sp games, like the recent spyro game, it means you couldn't play it, or you couldn't get all the content. It used to be that outside sp games, a game had to be playable without a patch. Mp games were allowed to enforce patches for security and keeping things equitable among the user base, but games with both modes required offline content be playable.
